VoIP - It is Really Free?
Many VoIP providers would compete among
each
another by providing lower cost in services just to attract as many customers
that they can. Some of them even offers the so-called free VoIP service.

A wise customer would know how to
read behind the line, free VoIP service is not actually ‘free’.
The catch is these providers would only limit the people you can
call for subscribing. There are instances where you can also
call to other members of other free VoIP services. Given that
there are other providers such as Vonage that would connect
their system to the traditional phone network; those who
subscribe from them can call anyone with a telephone. However,
the calls will only be limited to private individual since you
cannot call public telephone network and in return public
phones can’t reach your line.
However, there are those
providers that offer customer who availed the free VoIP services
a chance to call even those who are not subscribing on the same
service. However, you need to pay a certain amount for the
privilege given. The rate is lower than what you will pay on
conventional long-distance providers either domestically or
internationally. Since you will have to pay for this, do not be
swayed too much about the promo of the so-called free VoIP.
The saying ‘there is no free
lunch’ actually apply to what these providers are offering.
Definitely, there is a catch yet to be discovered. However,
this shouldn’t dishearten you because VoIP service has better and more advanced features that you would likely
imagine. Voicemail, call waiting, caller ID are only some of the
standard features that you wouldn’t expect from ordinary phone lines. VoIP isn't too good to be true
and sooner or later it might completely eradicate
conventional phones.
